Salary Range: $28/hour

Full Time:  35 Hours/Week

The Opportunity

The Mental Health Lead will work as a part of the service team in the Integrated Youth Service HOMEBASE; a highly collaborative partnership between many agencies and organizations. HOMEBASE is intended to be a one-stop shop to quickly connect youth with the right services, in the right place and time, emphasizing developing a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach and focusing on early interventions.

The Position  

The Mental Health Counselling Lead will provide emotional and social support, facilitate courses, workshops, and direct counseling to clients. The MHC lead also links individuals to community resources and works closely with IYS staff and community partners to ensure a full menu of Mental Health supports and services are provided.

Responsibilities  

  • Working with Moose Jaw Family Services as an employee, on-site at IYS Moose Jaw as a counsellor and mental health lead to support a variety of youth mental health needs
  • Works in collaboration with HOMEBASE senior staff to develop, and schedule mental health programs and services.
  • Provide counselling services to clients using a strengths based, solution focused, brief therapy approach
  • Liaise with youth participants and service providers at HOMEBASE to support the participants’ access to services and programs.
  • Provide service navigation, bridging, and ensure linkages are made with HOMEBASE partners and community resources
  •  Provide community outreach which may include facilitating presentations to community partners and youth participant recruitment
  • Facilitate educational and creative programming on a range of topics related to recovery, health, and well-being.
  • Support community engagement activities
  • Facilitate programming based on needs (life skills, mental health groups, etc. )
  • Participate as a member of the service delivery team
  • Report to MJFS site supervisors and participate in MJFS weekly counselling staff meeting
  • Participate in HOMEBASE and YMCA team events and trainings as required
  • Seek continuing education, site supervision, clinical supervision as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Update documentation and statistical data as prescribed
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives to advance the mission and ends of the organization
  • Support a clean, friendly, and welcoming environment (including reception areas)
  • Office administration including answering phones, booking appointments will be required
  • Office administration tasks such as filing, ordering supplies and light housekeeping will be required.
  • Participate in YMCA of Regina Child Safeguarding Training

Education Requirements 

This position must have acquired one of the following from a reputable university: BSW, MSW, MA in social work, clinical or counselling psychology, family counselling, or a related field. The successful candidate must be a registered member in good standing of their respective professional association and have at least one-year of previous experience working in the counselling field.

Qualifications  

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to create a safe, empathetic space for clients
  • Ethics in counselling course (or similar) with passing marks required
  • Experience providing direct counseling services to youth
  • Experience with facilitating groups
  • Proactive, Team-oriented, flexible, and willingness to collaborate with others
  • Knowledge and understanding of a Stepped Care approach to service delivery
  • Administrative experience including data entry, and developing reporting systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous populations, the impact of colonization on Canada’s Indigenous peoples, the historical and continuing impact of the residential school system, and traditional Indigenous healing and wellness beliefs, practices, and support agencies
  • Knowledge of settlement services and the impacts of immigration on newcomer youth
  • An understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and community services
  • Experience working with people living with disabilities is an asset
  • Knowledge of local mental health and addictions system and community services
  • Flexible Availability: Initial working hours will be from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but there may be a shift to less traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • The successful candidate must have both a recent satisfactory criminal record check and a child abuse registry check, along with a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
